Artist Statement
After a rewarding career in architecture, I had the opportunity to indulge my first love, making art, nurtured at the Gage Academy in Seattle. But I still largely think like an architect and am therefore tethered to process throughout my work.
What I look for in a subject for a drawing or painting is the germ of a story, sometimes on the surface, others more concealed. That germ is discovered, fueled by curiosity, and revealed through a process of exploration: how do I deploy and apply what I’ve learned about visual communication to shape the mood, the season, or the time of day in order to engage the viewer. Therein lies the work.
